How to Rate Your Skill Level

Skill Level 1

  • Want to learn to ride mountain bike trails

  • Are looking to make riding friends

  • Comfortable riding urban, packed gravel/dirt double track trails

  • Want to learn fundamental skills

  • Want to gain confidence

  • Want to learn in a safe and encouraging environment

Skill Level 2

  • Comfortable on all green and some blue trails

  • Have started riding single track trails

  • Comfortable on smooth singletrack trails

  • Gaining confidence on your bike

  • Riding in control

  • Want to improve climbing, descending, shifting, braking and cornering

  • Want to learn to navigate more challenging terrain and small obstacles safely and confidently

Skill Level 3

  • Are able to ride all green and most blue trails confidently

  • You can climb and descend on moderate steep sections with control 

  • Confident rolling small obstacles and perhaps experimented on black trails

  • Know when to walk sections/ride around features

  • Would like to tackle these sections/features

  • Looking to increase confidence on blue trails and ride with more flow on rooty, rocky terrain

Skill Level 4

  • Able to ride any green and blue trails with confidence and have tried some black diamond trails

  • Can climb and descend with control on moderately steep terrain

  • Comfortable rolling over small and medium obstacles

  • Know when to walk a section that might be too difficult

  • Looking to tackle those sections of trail

  • Want to learn jumps and drops

  • Looking to increase confidence on all blue and easy black diamond trails and improve skills on rooty, rocky sections

Skill Level 5

  • Are able to ride any blue trails with confidence, are comfortable and black trails and have experimented with double black trails

  • Can climb and descend under control on technical terrain

  • Are confident rolling over medium obstacles

  • You have experience with doing jumps and drops and are looking to improve technique to tackle bigger features

  • Know when to walk a section that might be too difficult

  • Want to increase confidence on technical terrain and air maneuvers
